Ms. Vandever is responsible for program development and grants management and directs the Children’s Rights and Child Protection and Human Rights Defenders programs. Prior to joining HREA in January 2012, Kathryn worked for the Mental Disability Advocacy Center in Budapest, Hungary where she managed the development of guidelines and checklists on Article 33 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), the provision that sets out a framework for national level implementation and monitoring of the CRPD. Prior to that, Kathryn worked for seven years for the Open Society Foundations in Budapest and New York where for five years she managed grant giving and operational programs that sought to advance the social inclusion and human rights of persons with mental disabilities in Central and Eastern Europe. She holds an M.A. in Human Rights from the University of Essex (United Kingdom) and a B.A. in Economics.
